All Black

Hi everyone! I hope you are all enjoying the long holiday weekend! I went shopping yesterday and was out for a few hours scoping out deals, but honestly there was nothing great. I did end up buying a black pleated maxi skirt at regular price. I really like it and the fit around the waist is actually pretty decent! I also went to Loft wanting to try this piped shirt, but of course couldn't find it. I came home thinking I was going to order the top online, but it was sold out in my size. :(

I wore this outfit out with my girlfriends for drinks a couple of weeks ago. When I don't know what to wear and not feeling very creative, I always turn to black. It's slimming and always looks more dressy than it actually is. To my surprise, I had a few people tell me that they loved my outfit and necklace. I really like the necklace too and have been wearing it none stop! It's so versatile and makes a statement to any outfit.

Floral Print Sweater

*Update: A few picks for Labor Day sale
Loft Petite Piped Shirt ($20), Loft Petite Tie Waist Dress ($7), Loft Petite Eyelet Skirt ($32), Loft Petite Side Shirred Dress ($34), Loft Petite Floral Drapey Top ($20),  BR Cape Sequin Mini ($30)

I know it's still summer, but I'm already shopping for transitional pieces that I can wear now and into the fall. I found this cute light weight cropped floral top and really love the print and how the blue adds a pop of color. I have a lot of blouses and was looking for more casual pieces and thought this sweater would be nice piece that I can pair with jeans or high waisted pencil or circle skirts.

Heavy Weight Pleated Skirt + Cross Front Top

This skirt is a must have for fall! It's a really great value item due to the fact that the fabric is really heavy weight (heavier than ponte and comparable to a neoprene). The site has a couple of things wrong though: the skirt is actually unlined and the waist measurement for an XS is approx 26.5". The skirt sits below my belly button and I'd have preferred it to sit on my natural waist. The hem of the skirt is also unfinished which is fine since knit fabrics don't fray. The back side of the fabric is black so you could see the color peeking through at the bottom.

I'm also loving cross front tops lately. I feel like most knit tops tend to look boring, but the cross front neckline makes it more elegant and sophisticated. I'd describe this top as an elevated and more glam version of a long sleeve t-shirt. I purchase this in store and don't mind the fit at all since I have a long torso, but the site does offer petite sizes.

Not Your Typical Interview Attire

Hey ladies. I just want to start off by saying we had the scariest earthquake last night. We were woken up around 3 am and our entire apartment shook for what felt like the longest time. It was the biggest earthquake I have ever felt to date living in SF. The epicenter was in Napa with a magnitude of 6.0. I was watching the news this morning and so many historic buildings, homes and business have been severely damaged by the result of this earthquake. Natural disasters are so scary and of course unexpected and my heart goes out to those individual and families who have been affected.
In all my previous jobs, the appropriate dress attire for interviews was definitely a suit and nothing else. I was interviewing awhile ago for positions at different fashion companies and was definitely wondering what is proper interview attire. I did a little research and found this great article  suggesting that you should wear something different than what you'd wear to a corporate setting; a  stylish outfit that is in line with the company's image, but remaining polished and professional at the same time. The day before the interview, I decided to go buy a new outfit because I had nothing in my closet I wanted to wear. I remember on Jean's instagram, she tried on this cute little fit and flare dress from H&M. I thought this would be the perfect interview outfit and something that is within my budget!

I tried on the size 2 in this dress and it was pretty snug in the bust and waist area. I sized up to a 4 because I wanted to feel relaxed and comfortable during my interview. The fabric hand is a medium weight and has a short exposed zipper from the neck to the mid-back. I also found this affordable cute little white blazer in the divided section and knew I wanted this to go with my dress. The smallest size available was a 4 (fits boxy) so I ended up settling with that, but a size 2 would have been much better. The blazer is also fully lined with a hook closure and the sleeves being be a smidgen too long for me.

A Different White Sheath

I scored this little white dress a week ago at the Macy's clearance rack. I tried it on and loved the fit and was about to to pay the sale price of $40ish, but turns out there's an additional discount and the dress ended up being only $13! Gotta love a good deal when you're not expecting one.
I also love that this such a nice basic piece and so easy to accessorize. It's a very comfortable knit dress that doesn't require ironing. The dress is also fully lined and so there's no show through. The mixed media and large keyhole in the back is also very unexpected and makes what would otherwise be a plain dress quite unique. In case you want to find one for yourself, I found the dress in the impulse department at Macy's.

Updating My Life + Lipstick Wardrobe

Hi Ladies! Time is not a luxury recently, so my postings have been very sparse. I thought I'd have a lot of time this summer to get back to blogging, but apparently not. I went back to doing makeup and also interning for a designer, which is coming to an end, and I'll be transitioning back to school and working for a fashion company. I'm really excited about seeing my friends in school and hanging out with them again and also starting my new job and being able to learn everything I can about the fashion industry!
Ever since I bought my red lipstick (in this post), I've been really intrigued about trying different colors and venturing out of my comfort zone of wearing basic pink lip glosses. I spent this summer doing makeup so it gave me the chance to try bright saturated colors and really see how each color drastically changes how you look.

MAC Pink Plaid Lipstick : This has a matte finish and I'd say it's more baby pink in person vs. a very nude color! I do love this color with a smokey eye.
MAC Pink Nouveau Lipstick : This lipstick has a satin finish and it's actually really bright in person. My boyfriend actually really liked this color on me and said that it brightens up my face and I have to totally agree!
MAC Girl About Town Lipstick: This has an amplified finish so the color is super pigmented with a creamy finish. I think it's a very glam color and would be so pretty to wear on a night out (hence the lipstick name).
MAC Hang-up Lipstick: The finish of this lipstick is a cremesheen which gives the lips lots of moisture and a little bit of shine. I never thought I'd be into a dark lip-color, but I have to say this is my favorite out of the 4. I think the color is really sexy and makes me feel like a vixen (which I am not).
